TRAVEL // NEPAL

Al and I have been really lucky to travel lots while we’ve been living in India, but it occurred to me that I’ve not really shared our trips with you.  So I’ve decided to trial a new travel section on the blog sharing our favourite places along with our recommendations on where to stay, eat and shop as well as our favourite things to do and see.

First up - Nepal

Wow, we loved it!  It’s not that far from Bangalore but it was TOTALLY different to anything we’d seen.  The architecture is stunning…it feels like you’re walking around a living museum.  The people are friendly and the momo’s; delicious!  We only had five days there but managed to squeeze a lot in, if we can , we’re hoping to go back and do a trek.

WHERE WE STAYED
Sacred Valley Inn – Thamel, Kathmandu
Krishna’s house – Bhaktapur
Nammo Buddha Resort – Dhulikhel

FAVOURITE PLACES TO EAT AND DRINK
Yangling Tibetan Restaurant in Thamel, Kathmandu for the BEST momos, so good that we went back a few times.
Gaia Restaurant & Coffee Shop in Thamel, just round the corner from our accomodation in Kathmandu and one of the best places we found for breakfast. They served delicious Nepali chai
Café Beyond in Bhaktapur for yummy Korean food. Get a table in the garden for a view over the hills of Bhaktpur
Whatsala Garden in Bhaktapur.  We didn't eat here but enjoyed drinks by candlelight.

FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO

Shopping in Thamel, it has the most choice for shopping. Try the streets off Durbar Square for antique silver jewellery, handmade paper, pashmina’s and paintings.
Shopping in Durbar Square in Bhaktapur, it's a great place to find handmade cards and decorations.  I found some great Christmas decorations.
Durbar Square in Patan – stay for sunset when the colours in Durbar square are breathtaking!
The Kumar Ghar in Kathmandu for a glimpse of the living Goddess
Bead market in Kathmandu Heritage walk in Bhaktapur that takes you through the little courtyards and back streets…be prepared to see some interesting sights!

WHAT I WORE

It was about 18 degrees in the day and fairly warm in the sunshine but when the sun went down the temperature dropped to about 5 degrees so I layered, layered and layered some more. I pretty much lived in a sweater, jeans and chucks and layered this with a beanie and blanket scarf.

Have you been to Nepal?  If you've been trekking then we'd LOVE some tips :)
