Travel // Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India

We visited Jodhpur as part of a 7 day trip to Rajasthan.  We flew into Jaipur, from Bangalore, spent a couple of days exploring the pink city then hired a car and a driver and drove to blue city - Jodhpur.  We back packed around Rajasthan back in 2002 but didn't make it to Jodhpur so Al and I were keen to visit while we were living in India.

I really liked it, Jodhpur's a relatively small city, much more rural than Jaipur and considerably more relaxed.  We had a couple of days to explore and it was plenty of time.

FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO:

Walk around the Mehrangarh fort  It's huge and full of beautiful rooms decorated in mirror work such as the Phool Mahal.  People often think this is a seperate sight, but it's inside the fort

Jaswant Thada. for some peace and quiet and a great view of the city

Explore the streets of the blue city and shop in the little market stalls.

FAVOURITE PLACES TO EAT AND DRINK

Hanwant Mahal - the food is FANTASTIC!  make sure you get a table on the roof, for magnificent views of  Umaid Bhavan Palace and jodhpur.  It's outside Jodhpur but not far in an auto and well worth the drive!

Kasar Heritage Restaurant enjoy a Kingfisher with a view of the fort lit up at night.
