THREE WAYS TO WEAR // OVERSIZED SWEATER

Hiya!  I'm back from the UK and while I had a really lovely (hectic, tiring, but lovely) time in the UK celebrating my Grannys 100th Birthday and styling old and new clients, I am so pleased to be back in the office!  Things are going to continue to be rather hectic round here, I've (finally!) had a delivery of scarves for my shop so have restocked two designs (Sona and Atasi) just in time for Christmas, and I'm working on having a selection of phone cases for sale on there, too.  Added to that I have a ton of new posts lined up for the next month and am about to embark on a new line of accessories made from beautiful leather and vintage tribal wear that I sourced while in India.  Let's do this!

Before I share this weeks Three Ways to Wear, I want to give a big shout out to Terra and Mandy for taking over my Three Ways to Wear while I was away.  I absolutely loved seeing how they styled their featured items and definitely found inspiration for my own looks, and I hope you did too!  Don't forget to pop on over to their blogs and Instagram feeds for more style inspiration:

So, this weeks featured item is an oversized sweater that I purchased in Pittsburgh a couple of years ago to help me get through the brutal winter months.  I had wondered if I'd ever need to wear it in SC, but the summer weather I left behind in Columbia a few weeks ago has pretty much gone now that I"m back and I've been forced to say goodbye to my summer clothes and un-pack my winter pieces. It's not all bad though, I've rediscovered some of my fave winter pieces like this sweater, and that's staved off a few new purchases!

Oversized sweaters can be difficult to layer - The sleeves are often too bulky to sit underneath chunky knits and coats, and if they're boxy as well (like this one is) then vests don't even sit on top comfortably either.  But all is not lost, just add a couple of layers underneath instead.  In this look I've layered a camisole, a thin 3/4 length sleeve top, and a denim shirt underneath and it still doesn't look too bulky!

I really like the look of wide leg pants worn with chunky sweaters but in some instances the two can be a little overwhelming.  The length of this sweater falls just below the widest point on my thighs, which is the perfect length when I'm wearing it with jeans or fitted trousers, however, with a cropped pant it's just too long - it drowns me.  To avoid that and to give me a little more shape, I've gently tucked the sweater in at the front, it's a trick that will work for all shapes but if you're a little bigger around the middle then I would avoid tucking in a lot of very thick fabric as it will just add bulk.

Normally when you think oversized sweater you think cozy and casual, but it's so easy to dress up a relatively casual sweater simply by adding a pair of heeled boots, a faux fur stole and a necklace.
